Minutes of Meeting
Monday, December 13, 2010
The Criminal Justice Commission met on Monday, December 13, 2010, at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill to interview candidates for appointment as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Appellate Bureau, and the Danbury Judicial District; and any other business that may come before the Commission.
The following members were present: Justice Richard N. Palmer, Chairman, Judge Thomas A. Bishop, Attorney Maura H. Horan, Attorney Garrett M. Moore, Attorney Ann G. Taylor, Attorney Alfred A. Turco and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Also present were Susan Marks, Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney, Appellate Bureau, at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney; Stephen J. Sedensky, Jr., State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Danbury; and Patricia Alston, Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist.
The meeting, which was open to the public, commenced at 11:10 a.m. Judge Bishop made a motion to accept the minutes from the June 16, November 3, and November 11, 2010, meetings. The motion was seconded by Attorney Turco and approved unanimously.
The Commission then took up the vacancy of the Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Appellate Bureau, and interviewed the following attorneys: Rocco Chiarenza, Adam Marks, Adam Mattei, Lawrence Scharpf and Emily Graner Sexton.
At approximately 12:50 p.m., Judge Bishop moved that the Commission go into executive session to discuss the above-mentioned position. The motion was seconded by Attorney Turco and passed unanimously.
Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 12:58 p.m. Judge Bishop moved that Attorney Rocco Chiarenza be appointed Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, Appellate Bureau. The motion was seconded by Attorney Turco and passed unanimously.
The Commission recessed at approximately 1:00 p.m., and then resumed its public meeting at 1:10 p.m. Judge Bishop moved that the Commission go into executive session to discuss personnel matters. Attorney Taylor seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. At approximately 1:26 p.m., Attorney Horan joined the meeting during executive session.
Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 2:00 p.m. The Commission then took up the vacancy of the Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Danbury Judicial District and interviewed the following attorneys: Andrew Reed Durham, Tamara Grosso, Sean McGuinness, Daniel Miller and Elizabeth Tanaka. At approximately 3:30 p.m., Attorney Taylor moved that the Commission go into executive session to discuss the above-mentioned position. The motion was seconded by Attorney Horan and passed unanimously.
Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 3:47 p.m. Attorney Moore moved that Attorney Sean McGuinness be appointed Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Danbury Judicial District. The motion was seconded by Attorney Turco and passed unanimously.
At approximately 3:50 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.
