Minutes of Meeting
June 9, 2009

The Criminal Justice Commission met on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill for the purpose of interviewing the remaining five of eight candidates for the appointment of Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.

The following members were present: Justice Richard N. Palmer, Chairman, Judge Thomas Bishop, Attorney Maura Horan, Attorney Garrett Moore, Attorney Ann Taylor, Attorney Alfred Turco, and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Affirmative Action Officer Patricia Alston was also present. No members of the public were present.

The meeting, which was open to the public, commenced at 9:20 a.m. The minutes of the June 2, 2009 meeting were approved unanimously.

The Commission then took up the vacancy of the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney and interviewed, in turn, Attorney Leonard Boyle, Senior Assistant State’s Attorney James Clark, Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Peter McShane, Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Michael O’Hare and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Maureen Platt Temchin.The Chief State’s Attorney is not a member of the Commission for the purpose of appointing the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney and did not participate in these interviews, but was present.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. the Commission recessed for lunch. The Commission then went into executive session at 1:05 p.m. on the motion of Judge Thomas Bishop which was seconded by Attorney Alfred Turco.

Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 2:00 p.m. Attorney Ann Taylor nominated Attorney Leonard Boyle for the position of Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations; Attorney Horan seconded the motion which passed unanimously.

The Commission again went into executive session at 2:05 p.m. on the motion of Attorney Garrett Moore seconded by Attorney Alfred Turco.

The Commission resumed its public meeting at 2:15 p.m. At that time, Judge Thomas Bishop made a motion to appoint Attorney Leonard Boyle effective July 1, 2009, or as soon thereafter as Attorney Boyle is available. The motion was seconded by Attorney Horan and was passed unanimously.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. the meeting was adjourned.
