Minutes of the Special Meeting

The Criminal Justice Commission met for a special meeting on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:20 a.m.

Also in attendance was The Honorable Melanie L. Cradle, attorneys Robert Berke, Reginald Dwayne Betts, Scott Murphy and Moy N. Ogilvie and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane, and Division of Criminal Justice Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist Janice duFrend. State’s Attorneys Matthew C. Gedansky (Judicial District of Tolland) and Richard J. Colangelo, Jr. (Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk) were also present at times during the meeting.

Attorney Ogilvie made a motion to accept the minutes of the August 1, 2019, meeting. Judge Cradle seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Attorney Berke made a motion to enter executive session to interview candidates for three positions in the Judicial District of Tolland/Geographical Area No. 19, Rockville, and one position in the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk, G.A. No. 20, Norwalk. Attorney Ogilvie seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The executive session began at 9:22 a.m. The Commission recessed for a break from 11:15 a.m. to 11:28 a.m. and for lunch from 1:15 p.m. to 1:55 P.M. The executive session ended at 3:15 p.m. There were no motions made or votes taken during the executive session.

Attorney Ogilvie made a motion to appoint Jennifer Cooper, Allison Kubas and Thadius Bochain as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys for the Judicial District of Tolland/G.A. No. 19, Rockville. Attorney Betts seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Judge Cradle made a motion to appoint Laurence Tamaccio as a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk, G.A. No. 20, Norwalk. Attorney Berke seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

The Commission briefly discussed the process for appointing the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Litchfield to complete the unexpired portion of the term of David Shepack, who retired, and the unexpired portion of the term of Chief State’s Attorney Kane, who will retire effective November 1, 2019.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
