Criminal Justice Commission Announces Reappointments

The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair of the Criminal Justice Commission, announced today that the Commission has reappointed the Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations and the State’s Attorneys for six of Connecticut’s 13 Judicial Districts.

"The Division of Criminal Justice is certainly in good hands with the reappointment today of these outstanding leaders of its senior management team. These dedicated professionals bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise, which is critical in the current fiscal climate," Justice McDonald said.

Reappointed effective July 1, 2017, are:

  • Leonard C. Boyle, who has served as Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations since June 2009. He is responsible for oversight of specialized units in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, including the Appellate Bureau, Civil Litigation Bureau, Cold Case/Shooting Task Force Bureau, Statewide Prosecution Bureau, Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit, Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit and Witness Protection Unit.
  • John C. Smriga, who has served as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Fairfield since July 2009. He oversees prosecutions at Bridgeport Superior Court, Bridgeport Superior Court G.A. No. 2 and Juvenile Matters in Bridgeport.
  • David Shepack, who has served as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Litchfield since April 2003. In addition to the Litchfield Superior Court, he oversees staff at Bantam Superior Court G.A. No. 18 and Juvenile Matters in Torrington.
  • Patrick J. Griffin, who was first appointed State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven in July 2016. He oversees prosecution at New Haven Superior Court, New Haven Superior Court G.A. No. 23, Meriden Superior Court G.A. No. 7, and Juvenile Matters and Housing Matters in New Haven.
  • Michael L. Regan, who has served as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New London since October 2006. He supervises staff at New London Superior Court, New London Superior Court G.A. No. 10, Norwich Superior Court G.A. No. 21 and Juvenile Matters in Waterford.
  • Matthew C. Gedansky, who has served as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Tolland since September 2003. He oversees prosecution at Tolland Superior Court in Rockville, Rockville Superior Court G.A. No. 19 and Juvenile Matters in Rockville.
  • Anne F. Mahoney, who was first appointed State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Windham in July 2016. She oversees prosecution at Windham Superior Court and G.A. No. 11 in Danielson and Juvenile Matters in Willimantic.

The Deputy Chief State’s Attorney was reappointed for a four-year term and the State’s Attorneys for eight-year terms.

Established pursuant to Article XXIII of the Connecticut Constitution, the Criminal Justice Commission is responsible for the appointment of all state prosecutors in Connecticut.

In addition to Justice McDonald, Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, its membership includes the Honorable Juliett L. Crawford, Judge of the Superior Court, attorneys Mary M. Galvin, Eric George, Moy N. Ogilvie and Erick A. Russell and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.
