How do I get an internship at DCF?

The CT Department of Children and Families provides internships for undergraduate and graduate students. They’re offered at area offices and facilities.

Who is eligible?

Candidates are evaluated based on their skills and the availability of field supervisors in their area of interest. We give priority to students pursuing a degree in social work. Sociology, criminal justice, psychology, and other degrees can be appropriate, too. The internships must relate to your coursework or program requirements.

Social work students must be referred by their field education department or field advisor.

Other students can apply by email.

How many hours will I work?

The number of hours usually varies based on whether you’re an undergraduate or graduate student. Please meet with your dean or other school personnel to request a preferred number of hours.

When are internships offered?

We have fall and spring internships. Summer internships are not available.
