Qualifying patients who register with the Medical Marijuana Program have access to different types of products, higher potency and the ability to purchase more cannabis than someone who is not registered. Program participants also have the benefit of tax-free products when purchased from a dispensary facility or hybrid retailer. There is no fee for medical marijuana patients and their caregivers to register with the Department.

Beginning October 1, 2026, qualifying patients and their caregivers who are registered for medical cannabis in another state or jurisdiction may purchase medical cannabis in Connecticut. For more information, click here. 

Physicians, physician assistants or advanced practice registered nurses are the gatekeepers to the medical marijuana registration system. No patient or caregiver can log in to the system until a physician, physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse initiates their application.

Dispensary pharmacists play a critical role in dispensary and hybrid facilities throughout Connecticut. Licensed pharmacists make sure cannabis products are properly dispensed, consult with patients, and can certify patients for a temporary certification or extend a patient’s certification.
