Former Town Official Convicted of Polluting Public Property
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Rocky Hill, CT) – Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced today that a jury convicted Scott Bartlett, age 60, of Fairfield, of eight felony charges, including three counts of Transporting Solid Waste to an Unpermitted Facility, three counts of Receiving Solid Waste at an Unpermitted Facility, Disposing of Solid Waste Without a Permit and Operating a Solid Waste Facility Without a Permit.
The verdict was the result of a lengthy and in-depth investigation by the Fairfield Police Department and the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office into illegal dumping operations on town property located at the Town of Public Works property on Richard White Way in Fairfield.
According to evidence at trial, Bartlett, the town of Fairfield’s former Public Works Superintendent, was involved in the dumping of contaminated and/or hazardous materials at the property from May until June 2018. The Honorable Tracy Lee Dayton presided over the trial.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Tamberlyn Chapman of the Statewide Prosecution Bureau of the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, together with former Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney C. Robert Satti Jr. of the Fairfield State’s Attorney’s Office and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Melissa Streeto.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 16, 2023 in the Judicial District of Fairfield.
