FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Hartford, CT) – Sharmese L. Walcott, Hartford Judicial District State’s Attorney, announced that Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, age 76, of Burlington, pleaded guilty today before the Honorable David P. Gold to a charge of Manslaughter in the First Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-55(a)(1), and Larceny in the First Degree in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-122(a)(2).
The defendant was arrested in February 2018 after her husband, Pierluigi Bigazzi, age 84, was found dead in the basement of the couple's Burlington home. Police discovered the body while responding to a call for a welfare check at the home from the victim’s employer who had not heard from the victim for several months. An investigation showed paychecks from the victim’s employer continued to be deposited into the couple’s joint checking account from the time of his death, which authorities believe to be sometime in July 2017, until his body was discovered in early February 2018.
The case was prepared for trial by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Elena Palermo and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Terence D. Mariani, Jr. of the Statewide Prosecution Bureau, with the assistance of Supervisory Inspector Emory Hightower.
“This case has been pending for six years so we are thankful we were able to reach a resolution today,” State’s Attorney Walcott said.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 28, 2024 in Hartford Superior Court.
