Cornel Myers Sentenced to 57 Years in Prison for Murder of Middletown Woman

(Middletown, CT) – Middlesex State’s Attorney Michael A. Gailor announced that Cornel Myers was sentenced today by the Honorable Vernon D. Oliver to 57 years in prison for the September 7, 2018 murder of a 29-year-old Middletown woman.
On November 4, 2022, a Superior Court jury convicted Myers, age 39, of the crime of Murder in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 53a-54a. According to evidence introduced at the trial, Myers had been in a dating relationship with the female victim. In the weeks leading up to her death, the victim attempted to end the relationship. During the last three days of her life, the victim repeatedly told Myers to leave her alone and, ultimately, refused to take his calls or respond to his texts. The evidence established that Myers entered her home in Middletown at approximately 10:20 p.m. on the night of September 7, 2018, and viciously attacked her with a knife. The victim’s throat was slashed and she suffered numerous other cuts and stab wounds.
The case was prosecuted by State’s Attorney Gailor and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Germain.
During today's sentencing, the victim’s family and friends spoke about the loss of the victim. "This case shows the devastating effect domestic violence can have not only on the victim but also on the victim’s family members and friends," State's Attorney Gailor said. "We would like to thank the victim’s family members and friends for their patience during the prosecution and the Middletown Police Department and the Connecticut State Police for their work on the investigation."
