Commission on the Standardization of the Collection of Evidence in Sexual Assault Investigations

Members in Attendance: Chair Maureen Platt, Candida Fusco, Patti LaMonica

Minutes from the March 21, 2011 minutes were accepted.

A discussion was held regarding the distribution of the new Technical Guidelines. The training will be held this summer and has tentatively been scheduled at the Connecticut State Police Forensic Lab in Meriden.

A discussion was held on the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) Pilot program which is up and running in six hospitals.

The Commission has recommended a revision to governing statute section 19a-112a and hope to have the proposed language introduced in the next legislative session.

The report of the Bill Paying Subcommittee was deferred until September’s Commission meeting.

Several possible topics were discussed for the upcoming year including expanding and publicizing the SAFE program, and an annual review of the Technical Guidelines.

The next Commission meeting will be held at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney in Rocky Hill on September 19, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
