Chief State’s Attorney’s Meeting
Minutes of the Meeting of June 17, 2011
Crowne Plaza Hotel
The meeting was called to order at 9:27 a.m. by Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. The meeting was held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Cromwell, site of the Division of Criminal Justice 2011 Annual Prosecutor Training program.
Also in attendance were: Deputy Chief State’s Attorneys Leonard C. Boyle (Operations) and John J. Russotto (Personnel, Finance and Administration); State’s Attorneys David I. Cohen (Stamford-Norwalk), Michael Dearington (New Haven); Patricia M. Froehlich (Windham), Matthew C. Gedansky (Tolland), Gail P. Hardy (Hartford), Kevin D. Lawlor (Ansonia-Milford), Timothy J. Liston (Middlesex), Maureen Platt (Waterbury), Michael L. Regan (New London), and John C. Smriga (Fairfield); and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorneys Dawn Gallo (Litchfield).
Also present: Executive Assistant State’s Attorneys Brian Austin, Jr., Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) Communications Officer Mark A. Dupuis, and Claire Nolin from the Office of Policy and Management.
State’s Attorney Liston made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 23, 2011, meeting. The motion was seconded by State’s Attorney Lawlor and passed unanimously.
Chief State’s Attorney Kane reported on ongoing discussions concerning the investigation of child deaths by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). There was concern expressed about the response to recent incidents. State’s Attorneys Cohen, Gedansky and Smriga volunteered to serve, or appoint a designee, to serve on a committee that will meet with the OCME to attempt to resolve concerns regarding these investigations.
Deputy Chief State’s Attorney Russotto reported that the Connecticut Association of Prosecutors ratified the tentative agreement between the state administration and the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC). The unit representing DCJ clerical employees voted against ratification.
