The Criminal Justice Commission met on November 27, 2018, to discuss the Honors Fellowship program; conduct interviews and select candidates for the positions of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney at the Office of the State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Litchfield, Geographical Area (G.A.) 18; and any other business that may come before the Commission.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair.

In attendance were:  The Honorable Juliett L. Crawford, Attorney Mary M. Galvin, Attorney Moy Ogilvie and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Also present: State’s Attorney David S. Shepack, Judicial District of Litchfield; Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Miller; and Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew A. Weiner. 

Attorney Galvin made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 25, 2018, meeting. Chief State’s Attorney Kane seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

At 9:05 a.m., Attorneys Jen Miller and Matt Weiner of the Appellate Bureau at the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, presented an overview of their recruitment efforts in attracting law school students to participate in the newly-created Honors Fellowship program which is designed to recruit and select law students to become per diem prosecutors upon graduation in which they will work and learn in a variety of assignments.

At 9:35 a.m., the Commission interviewed the following for two positions of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Litchfield, G.A. 18:  Mary K. Eschuk, Alison Kubas, Philip J. Maddalena, Dennis Mancini, Sarah Fallon Murphy, and Jacob Pezzulo.

After a brief recess at 11:15 a.m., the interviews resumed at 11:30 a.m.  Attorney Ogilvie made a motion to go into executive session at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the appointments.  The motion was seconded by Attorney Galvin and passed unanimously.

Following the executive session, Attorney Ogilvie moved for the appointments of Attorneys Mary K. Eschuk and Sarah Fallon Murphy as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorneys for the Judicial District of Litchfield, G.A. 18. Attorney Galvin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
