Minutes of the Meeting of July 1, 2016

The Criminal Justice Commission met on Friday, July 1, 2016, to conduct interviews for the position of State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven; consider the reappointment of the Chief State’s Attorney; and any other business that may come before the Commission.

The meeting was called to order at 9:20 a.m. by The Honorable Richard N. Palmer, Chair. In attendance were: The Honorable Juliett Crawford, Attorney Mary M. Galvin, Attorney Moy N. Ogilvie, Attorney Ann G. Taylor and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.

Attorney Galvin made a motion, seconded by Attorney Taylor, to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 19, 2016. The motion passed unanimously.

The Commission interviewed the following for the position of State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven: Kevin D. Lawlor, Patrick J. Griffin, David L. Zagaja, David J. Strollo, Robert J. Scheinblum, Gary W. Nicholson, Stacey Haupt Miranda, John P. Doyle, Jr., and James R. Dinnan.

After a brief recess at 11:42 a.m., the interviews resumed at 11:50 a.m. The Commission recessed again at 1:35 p.m. and resumed the interviews at 2:00 p.m.

Attorney Ogilvie made a motion at 4:10 p.m. to go into executive session to discuss the reappointment of the Chief State’s Attorney, at which time the Chief State’s Attorney excused himself from the meeting. The motion was seconded by Attorney Taylor and passed unanimously.

Following the executive session, the Commission resumed its public meeting at approximately 4:13 p.m., at which time the Chief State’s Attorney rejoined the meeting. Chairman Palmer announced that the Commission reappointed Attorney Kane as Chief State’s Attorney for a five-year term commencing July 1, 2016.

Attorney Ogilvie made a motion to go into executive session at 4:15 p.m. to discuss the New Haven appointment. The motion was seconded by Attorney Taylor and passed unanimously. The Commission resumed its public meeting at 4:55 p.m. Chairman Palmer announced that the Commission appointed Attorney Patrick J. Griffin as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of New Haven.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
