Minutes of the Meeting of Tuesday, December 1, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 9:20 a.m. by The Honorable Richard N. Palmer, Chair.

In attendance were: The Honorable Juliett Crawford, Attorney Mary M. Galvin, Attorney Maura H. Horan, Attorney Moy N. Ogilvie, Attorney Ann G. Taylor, and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Also present: State’s Attorney Richard J. Colangelo, Jr., Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk; and State’s Attorney Kevin D. Lawlor, Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford.

Attorney Galvin made a motion, seconded by Attorney Taylor, to approve the minutes of the meeting of November 19, 2015. The motion passed unanimously.

The Commission interviewed the following for the position of Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney, Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk, Geographical Area (G.A.)1: Bryan T. Cafferelli, Daniel E. Cummings, Ryan J. Flanagan, Michael P. Nemec, and Sara Ross-Benjamin. Attorneys Cummings and Ross-Benjamin applied for and were finalists for this opening, as well as the opening in the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford, G.A. 22; these interviews served for both positions.

After a brief recess at 10:33 a.m., the interviews resumed at 10:40 a.m. At 12:40 p.m., the Commission also interviewed Daniel Hespeler, Matthew R. Kalthoff, and Winthrop S. Smith, III, for the G.A. 22 position.

Attorney Taylor made a motion to go into executive session at 2:04 p.m. to discuss the appointments. The motion was seconded by Attorney Horan and passed unanimously.

The Commission resumed its public meeting at 2:35 p.m. Attorney Taylor moved for the appointment of Attorney Daniel E. Cummings as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford/Norwalk, G.A. 1. Attorney Horan seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

Attorney Taylor moved for the appointment of Attorney Matthew R. Kalthoff as Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford, G.A. 22. Attorney Horan seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
