Kevin Lawlor Appointed Deputy Chief State's Attorney for Operations

The Honorable Andrew J. McDonald, Chair of the Criminal Justice Commission, announced that the Commission has appointed Kevin D. Lawlor as Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations.

Attorney Lawlor succeeds Leonard C. Boyle, who retired from state service in June following his appointment as First Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Attorney Lawlor was appointed to complete the remainder of the four-year term to which Boyle was appointed as Deputy Chief State’s Attorney in July 2017.

The Deputy Chief State’s Attorney for Operations is responsible for oversight of specialized units in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney, including the Appellate Bureau, Civil Litigation Bureau, Cold Case/Shooting Task Force Bureau, Statewide Prosecution Bureau, Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit and Witness Protection Unit.

Attorney Lawlor has served as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford in June 2006, when he succeeded Mary M. Galvin, who retired. He was reappointed in 2010 and again this year.

He joined the Division of Criminal Justice as a Deputy Assistant State's Attorney at Geographical Area No. 22 in Milford on October 13, 1995. He was advanced to Assistant State's Attorney in March 1998 and transferred to Part A in the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford in July 2002. He was designated Senior Assistant State's Attorney effective April 1, 2006.

Established pursuant to Article XXIII of the Connecticut Constitution, the Criminal Justice Commission is responsible for the appointment of all state prosecutors in Connecticut. In addition to Justice McDonald, Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, its membership includes the Honorable Juliett L. Crawford, Judge of the Superior Court, attorneys Mary M. Galvin, Eric George, Moy N. Ogilvie and Erick A. Russell and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane.

Per state statute, the Chief State’s Attorney as a member of the commission does not participate in the appointment of the Chief State’s Attorney or Deputy Chief State’s Attorneys.
