How do I report workers' compensation fraud?

Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit
Section 31-290d of the Workers' Compensation Act created the Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit. It operates within the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Division of Criminal Justice. The office investigates complaints against anyone alleged to be engaged in any form of workers’ compensation fraud.

Pursuant to Section 31-290c of the Workers' Compensation Act, the fraudulent receipt or attempt to receive benefits is classified as:
- Class C felony – if the amount claimed or received is less than $2,000
- Class B felony – if the amount is more than $2,000
A person found guilty of such fraud is also liable for treble damages in a civil proceeding, under Section 52-564 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
Additionally, anyone who assists another person in fraudulently receiving, or attempting to receive, benefits is also subject to the same penalties.
