What you need to know about the Connecticut workers’ compensation system

The Connecticut workers' compensation system...
Covers almost all workers
- Includes minors, non-citizens, and part-time workers
- Works regardless of job type, business size, employment length, or daily number of work hours
- Has exceptions only for those working around a private home for fewer than 26 hours per week
Is a no-fault insurance system
- Lets workers collect benefits even if the accident was their fault or
- If they were born with a medical condition that made the injury more likely or serious
- Has private insurers or self-insured employers to pay benefits to injured workers

- Gives needed medical treatment
- Provides weekly benefits while you have a disability
- Delivers vocational rehabilitation, if needed
- Can include more benefits for scarring, disfigurement, and permanent physical impairment
Gives coverage that nobody can sign away
There are only a few exceptions:
- When officers or partners of a corporation who work in partnerships ask in writing to opt out of coverage
- When an administrative law judge approves a claim's stipulated settlement
