Knowledge Base Categories and Subcategories

Creating Categories

1. Navigate to the Categories folder to create, modify, or delete a Knowledge Base Category.

2. Right click on the Categories folder and select Insert > FAQ Main Category Page

3. Enter the Category name and select OK.

TIP: You can create as many Categories as needed.

Editing Categories

Once a Category is a created, you can modify the Category name and description.

1. Select the Category you would like to modify.

2. Navigate to the Main Content Tag Data section in the content area.

3a. Edit the Category name in the Content Tag Name field. This field auto-populated by the initial title given to the Category.

3b. Add the Category description in the Description field. Select the Show Editor button to open the Rich Text Editor. Note: Avoid adding hyperlinks to the description as this field is meant to be text only.

Category Display Options

1. Select the Category you would like to modify.

2. Navigate to the Content Tag Folder Settings section and select the corresponding field to modify any of the following:

a. Sort Results By: 

  • Sitecore Sort Order (default) – Organized in same order listed within Sitecore Content Editor.
  • Alphabetical Order – Organized in alphabetical order.

b. Number Of Categories To Display: Determines the number of Categories that will display on the Knowledge Base homepage. The options include 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, and All.


Note: If the Knowledge Base contains more Categories that the number selected to display, then a View All Categories link will display for users to show all categories.

c. Number Of Categories In a Row: Determines the number of Categories displayed per row. Options include 1, 2, 3, and 4.

d. View All Categories Text – The text that automatically displays when there are more Knowledge Base Categories than the number defined in the Number Of Categories To Display field.

e. No Categories Available Text – The text that displays when there are no Categories created and published.
f. Show Category Icons – The option to have Category icons display.

Creating Subcategories

Subcategories are created underneath existing Categories.

1. Right click on any existing Category and select Insert > FAQ Sub Category Page

2. Enter the Subcategory name and select OK.

TIP: You can create as many Subcategories as needed.

Editing Subcategories

Once a Subcategory is a created, you can modify the Subcategory name and description.

1. Select the Subcategory to modify.

2. Navigate to the Sub Content Tag Data section in the content area.
