How to Notify the Secretary of Election-Related Subpoenas, Warrants, or Requests

Under Public Act 26-42, Sec. 33, a municipal official or election worker who receive a subpoena, warrant, or other request for or to inspect any record or recording related to an election, primary, or referendum (including requests related to tabulators, ballot boxes, or other devices used to conduct elections) must notify the Attorney General (AG) and the Secretary of the State (SOTS). The requirement applies to all requests made by any private or governmental entity, individual, or official. Municipal officials and election workers must provide a copy of the request to the AG and SOTS within 36 hours after receiving it.

If your town receives such a request, please notify SOTS by emailing a copy of it to LEAD@ct.gov. Should you have any questions, please contact our office directly at (860) 509-6100.
