Certification Requirements: Comprehensive Special Education (165)
1) A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
2) Has completed a planned program of professional education related to the preparation of teachers of children with special needs and presents the recommendation of an approved institution based on knowledge and competence acquired through study and experience in:
- Psychoeducational theory and development of special needs children;
- Diagnosis (assessment) of special needs children;
- Curriculum and methods of teaching special needs children; and
- Supervised observation, participation, and full-time responsible student teaching, totaling at least six but not more than 12 semester hours of credit, dealing with at least two handicapping conditions.
3) A passing score on the Praxis Special Education test and the Pearson Foundations of Reading test.
