Certification Requirements: Hard of Hearing (057)
1) A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
2) A minimum of 45 semester hours of college credit in general education including:
- Six credits in English
- Six credits in social science, including a US history course
AND - Study in at least three of the following areas

natural science (biology, chemistry, earth science, physics)
-
fine arts (visual art, music)
-
mathematics
-
foreign language

3) A minimum of 30 semester hours of college credit in professional education appropriate to the deaf or hard of hearing in a planning program of study, including:
- the teaching of speech to the deaf or hard of hearing
- the teaching of language to the deaf or hard of hearing
- methods of teaching elementary school subjects to the deaf or hard of hearing
- lip reading for the deaf or hard of hearing
- auditory and speech mechanisms
- audiometry, hearing aids and auditory training
- education and guidance to the deaf or hard of hearing
- student teaching (minimum of six credits)
- a course of study in special education including gifted and talented
