Note: The ASP meal pattern for grades K-12 applies only to school year 2024-25 and expires on June 30, 2025. Effective July 1, 2025, the USDA final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, aligns the ASP meal pattern for grades K-12 with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) snack meal pattern requirements, except that the NSLP and SBP weekly juice limit and NSLP and SBP weekly whole grain-rich (WGR) requirement apply. The crediting changes for each meal component are indicated in the applicable sections below. - Milk component change for school year 2025-26: Effective July 1, 2025, the USDA final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, establishes a sugar limit for flavored milk. Flavored milk cannot exceed 10 grams of added sugars per 8 fluid ounces. Flavored milk sold as a competitive food in middle and high schools cannot exceed 15 grams of added sugars per 12 fluid ounces.

- MMA component changes for school year 2025-26: Effective July 1, 2025, the USDA final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, changes the serving size for MMA from ounces to oz eq and establishes a sugars limit for yogurt. Yogurt cannot exceed 12 grams of added sugars per 6 ounces (no more than 2 grams of added sugars per ounce).

- Vegetables/fruits component changes for school year 2025-26: Effective July 1, 2025, the USDA final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, changes the vegetables/fruits component to two separate components (vegetables component and fruits component) and juice cannot exceed half of the fruits and vegetables offered at snack during the week.

- New limit for added sugars in breakfast cereals effective with school year 2025-26: Effective July 1, 2025, the USDA final rule, Child Nutrition Programs: Meal Patterns Consistent with the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, establishes a sugar limit for breakfast cereals. Breakfast cereals cannot exceed 6 grams of added sugars per dry ounce.

At least 80 percent of the weekly grains offered at snack must be whole grain-rich, based on oz eq of offered grains. Breakfast cereals cannot exceed 6 grams of added sugars per dry ounce.
