Electric and gas utilities have begun notifying residential customers with unpaid and/or past-due balances that if they do not take action and contact their utility to enroll in a payment plan, they are at risk of having their gas services terminated on Thursday, May 2, 2024. If your household has received a notification from your utility company, please contact them directly to set up a payment plan to keep your services on. These plans charge no interest, and all customers qualify at least once for one or more of these plans. After engaging with utility providers, customers may also contact PURA’s customer affairs unit for specific questions regarding payment arrangements. View eligibility, utility contact information

PURA to Hold Public Comment Hearings on CT Water Rate Application

(New Britain, CT – October 30, 2023) – The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) today announced it will hold three public comment hearings to receive ratepayer feedback on The Connecticut Water Company’s (CWC) application to amend its rate schedule. This is in addition to evidentiary hearings that will be held with CWC and other interested parties in January 2024.

PURA encourages ratepayers to attend and participate in hearings on:

  • Wednesday, November 1 at 5:30 p.m.; Hall Memorial Library, McKnight Community Room, 93 Main St., Ellington, CT
  • Monday, November 27 at 5:30 p.m.; Jonathan Trumbell Library, 580 Exeter Road, Lebanon, CT
  • Thursday, December 14 at noon; Zoom

Ratepayers and other stakeholders submitting comments into the public record are urged to include the docket number (Docket No. 23-08-32), your name, and home address.

Under the proposed rate application, CWC has requested that PURA increase the company’s annual revenues above current levels by approximately $21 million, or 18.1%, for rates effective July 1, 2024. Depending upon where a customer is located, the requested increase would add between $18.80 and $58.69 on a quarterly basis to the typical residential water bill (approximately 15,000 gallons per quarter).

CWC’s last distribution rate case was completed in July 2021. The Clinton-based utility, which is owned by SJW Group, provides water and fire protection service to over 107,000 customers, or 360,000 people, across 60 towns and cities across Connecticut.
