Is a Health Care Sharing Ministry (HCSM) health insurance?
No, an HCSM is not health insurance. HCSMs are not subject to state insurance laws or regulatory oversight and do not have to comply with the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) protections like covering treatment for pre-existing conditions. OHA knows some HCSMs that deny they have any obligation to pay any particular health care expense for their members.
