Why did my gas bill go up?
Natural gas prices usually go up for two reasons:
- Demand
- Cold weather
Connecticut imports all of its natural gas from other states, mostly by pipeline. When the demand for natural gas goes up in Connecticut, the U.S., or anywhere else in the world, that can drive up the prices charged here.
Sometimes bills go up simply because of the weather. For example, people will see their gas bill go up during cold winters because they use more natural gas than usual to heat their home or business.
