  Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced today that the state has submitted a robust application for $227 million in federal funding to complete the third phase of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) high-speed intercity passenger rail project. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) submitted its application Monday to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for the $227 million, which is available because the State of Florida recently decided to reject some $2.4 billion in high-speed rail money because it did not want to commit to the state matching funds.

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy has ordered the flag of the State of Connecticut on the State Capitol building to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, April 23, in honor of Windsor Volunteer Firefighter Robert Watts, who died in the line of duty after responding to an emergency call Monday.

• Governor Malloy on Navy Announcement of $1.2 Billion to Electric Boat for Second Submarine Production

  Governor Dannel P. Malloy this evening released the following statement in response to the U.S. Navy announcement that it has awarded $1.2 billion for the production of a second submarine by Electric Boat in FY 2011. In February, Governor Malloy sent letters to the Chairs and the Ranking Members of Congress’ Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense urging the full funding of two Virginia Class submarines.

  On Tuesday evening, Governor Dannel P.   On Friday morning, Governor Dannel P. Malloy will visit BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) to attend the celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary of its Canaan facility. BD is a leading global medical technology company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems and reagents. The company employs about 350 workers at its Canaan facility, which opened in 1961.
