Gov. Malloy Celebrates Third Anniversary of CTfastrak, Reiterates Call for Transportation Revenues
Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker, and advocates today celebrated the third anniversary of the launch of CTfastrak bus service, the state’s bus rapid transit system. Ridership on the service surpassed 15 million in March and continues to grow, and important economic development projects continue along the route.

Gov. Malloy Testifies in Support of Criminal Justice Reform Legislation
Governor Dannel P. Malloy has submitted written testimony in support of five legislative proposals he introduced that are being considered in the Connecticut General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee aimed at continuing Connecticut’s nationally recognized criminal justice reform efforts. These legislative proposals, which the committee is discussing at a public hearing today, include the fair treatment of incarcerated women, raising the age of the juvenile justice system’s jurisdiction, providing additional procedural protections for 18,19, and 20-year-olds in adult court, and restoring fairness in the use of special parole sentencing.

Malloy today announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately in honor of Connecticut State Police Trooper First Class Kevin M. Miller, who was killed this afternoon in a motor vehicle accident while on duty. Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is proposing legislation aimed at strengthening Connecticut’s efforts to bring fairness and dignity to incarcerated women. The proposal will prohibit the shackling of pregnant inmates during labor, require the Department of Correction (DOC) to provide female inmates with feminine hygiene products at no cost, establish child friendly visitation policies, and require DOC to develop and implement a policy regarding transgender inmates, among other measures.
