The Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs is a state agency serving the more than 200,000 veterans who call this state home. Our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" is demonstrated through our Four Core Functions:

Sgt. John L. Levitow Healthcare Center: a long-term chronic care facility located in Rocky Hill

Residential Programs and Services: providing single veterans with a continuum of rehabilitative services and programs to return to independent living. 

Office of Advocacy and Assistance: assists veterans, their eligible spouses and dependents in obtaining benefits under federal, state and local laws with Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) located in each Congressional District. 

Cemetery and Memorial Services: coordinating and assisting veterans and their families with burial at the State Veterans Cemetery located in Middletown, CT.

In addition to what our agency offers, Connecticut veterans are eligible for several other state benefits offered through other state agencies and towns. Eligibility requirements may vary according to the specific benefit program but must be a resident of the State of Connecticut at the time he/she applies for benefits.  Some benefits require (90) days of active duty during a defined period of war in order to qualify, unless the veteran was separated earlier due to a service-connected disability or the period of war lasted less the (90) days. 

Connecticut recognizes periods of war ranging from the Spanish-American War to the Persian Gulf, and Iraqi Freedom.  These periods are defined in CGS Sec.27-103(a) and are found in our Eligibility section.
