HUSKY B


Program Overview

 

HUSKY B, or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), provides free or low-cost health coverage for uninsured children up to age 19 and pregnant individuals who don't qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status.

mom and son leaning togetherHUSKY B helps families afford medical care. Connecticut children and families who meet income requirements may qualify for HUSKY B. The HUSKY B plan provides health coverage for eligible members, including:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Prescription drugs

 

Although some cost sharing may apply, families with children in HUSKY B should not pay more than 5% of their gross income on insurance premiums, co-payments, or co-insurance during their eligibility year.

 

HUSKY B-Prenatal Care provides health care to pregnant non-citizens who don't qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status. There is no age requirement for this coverage or applicable premiums.

 

Eligibility


Who is eligible?

Uninsured Connecticut children under age 19 who are not eligible for HUSKY A due to income may be eligible for HUSKY B. Pregnant individuals who do not qualify for Medicaid due to immigration status may also qualify.

 

Children eligible for HUSKY B are enrolled in one of two groups:

 

  • Band 1: For uninsured children under 19 years old with income up to 254% of the federal poverty level. There is no monthly premium, but some copays may apply.
  • Band 2: Band 2 is similar to Band 1, but it is for uninsured children with a greater income with a 323% of the federal poverty level. Monthly premiums apply, typically:
    • $30 for one child
    • $50 for multiple children
Income Limits

 

Connecticut children and families with income between 202% - 323% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) may qualify for HUSKY B.

  • Full names of family members
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security Numbers (if available)
  • Tax filing status
  • Income sources and amounts
  • Connecticut address
  • Other health insurance information
How to Apply

  • Apply online: Create an account and apply online through Access Health CT
  • Apply by phone: Call Access Health CT at 1-855-805-4325
  • Apply by mail: Complete the paper application ‘AH3’ and mail it to Access Health CT, P.O. Box 670 Manchester, CT 06045-0670
  • Apply in person at a local DSS Regional Office (please note that you may have to wait to see a worker). See a list of local offices here.
