Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in Connecticut may be eligible to take part in SNAP Employment and Training (E&T).
If you get SNAP but not Temporary Family Assistance (TFA), you can get free classes and help to complete a training program. SNAP E&T can help you gain skills to find work and become more independent. In Connecticut, this program is called CTPathways.

How to sign-up for CTPathways
There are many ways to start:
Talking to a coordinator right away will get you on the program faster. The coordinator will help you pick a program and a training location.
- Contact any of the approved training locations*
- Go to the training location's website. Type “SNAP” in the search box, and you will find the contact information.
- Call the training location to talk to a CTPathways coordinator.
- Contact us at 1-855-626-6632 and say, “I want to sign up for SNAP E&T.” Give your name, address, phone number, and e-mail. A coordinator will contact you.
*You do not need to live in the same town as the training location. You can go to any of the approved training locations.
Benefits of CTPathways
- You can learn new skills and trades with our free training programs.
- You can grow in the job you are in now through specialized training.
- You can also earn certificates, or college credits toward a degree.
- CTPathways may help you keep your SNAP by meeting the work rules, including ABAWD (Able Bodied Adult Without Dependents) rules.
This program was made with the Connecticut job market needs in mind. You will have the skills to start working right away once you finish your training.
Reimbursements of CTPathways Program Expenses
CTPathways may help pay for expenses so you can go to training and finish your program. These expenses are called “participant reimbursements.” You should work with the coordinator of your program to see if you can get help for these costs.
Examples of costs that you could get reimbursed:
- Support Services to help you enter or move up in the workforce
- Transportation
- Childcare
- Books and course related materials such as tools, uniforms, etc.
- Exam, licensing, and certification fees
The program coordinator makes a decision on each case. If you have questions about participant reimbursements, call your coordinator.

SNAP E&T Success Stories
Success Stories of SNAP E&T Participants
Lashauna is a female who resides in Hartford and was a participant of the Capital Workforce Best Chance Program. She was registered with the Best Chance Program on 6/21/2019 looking for a second chance in life. She entered the Pre-Manufacturing Course at Manchester Community on 9/23/2019 and completed on 12/13/2019. After training completion, she began her job search phase. During that time, she faced multiple rejections due to her felony record. In spite of the rejections, she persevered and continued to look for work. She secured an employment offer from CT Boatworks on 4/23/2020 during the uncertain environment of COVID-19. She began making $16.50 an hour, and is hoping that her hard work and perseverance will continue to move her forward as she grows in her professional environment. SNAP E&T funds paid for half of her pre-manufacturing training expenses.
Emma Ryan is a Middlesex Community College graduate who completed the Veterinary Assistant Program. She decided to enroll in this program because she wanted to work with animals her entire life, but never had the resources to go back to school. The CTPathways program at Middlesex gave her the ability to take the classes required to become a Veterinary Assistant. She believes that the CTPathways program is a great program that allows those with limited resources to go after their dreams. Emma went from feeling very stuck, to having the chance to do something she loved. Before completing the program, she was offered a full-time position at Branford Veterinary Hospital. Emma is so grateful for Middlesex and the CTPathways program for allowing her to chase her dreams that she would have been unable to pursue, had this program not existed.
