EEIP RIDRM Surveillance Systems

What is CTEDSS/Maven?
Maven is Connecticut’s web-based electronic disease surveillance system (CTEDSS). Direct entry of interview data into CTEDSS for disease follow-up allows local health departments (LHDs) to complete follow-up forms online without the need to submit paper reports to DPH. CTEDSS allows the sharing of information between LHDs and DPH and gives LHD staff the ability to generate reports of case data for their jurisdiction. CTEDSS is supported by the DPH Infectious Disease Section Informatics Program.

DPH continues to expand disease reporting in CTEDSS. One significant benefit of the system is that it is able to receive electronic laboratory reports. The implementation of CTEDSS allows LHDs to access laboratory information on patients residing within their jurisdiction only.

What is EpiCenter?
This system receives near real-time reports on ED visits from all licensed, hospital emergency departments in Connecticut. Data include a description of the chief complaint, or reason for visit, and discharge diagnosis codes. Information about syndromic surveillance data submission and data use is available here. Local health departments may request access to EpiCenter by contacting dph.syndromic@ct.gov.

What is NHSN?
The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) is an online disease surveillance system for healthcare facilities and public health programs developed and maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The DPH Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI-AR) Program uses NHSN for Connecticut mandated reporting of healthcare-associated infections. During the COVID-19 pandemic, NHSN was also used for COVID-19 reporting from hospitals and nursing homes mandated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
