The Connecticut Water Planning Council (WPC) was created in 2001 under Public Act 01-177and operates pursuant to Connecticut General Statute 25-33o to address issues involving water companies, water resources and state policies regarding the future of the state’s drinking water supply. The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Office of Policy and Management, and the Department of Public Health constitute the WPC.
Presently the WPC is undertaking the development of the State Water Plan (SWP) as required under Public Act 14-163 which modified CGS Section 22a-352. The draft SWP is due July 1, 2017 and will then be made available for public review and comment for a minimum of 120 days.
Following public comment and public hearings on the draft SWP, and not later than January 1, 2018, a Final Draft SWP is due for approval, revision or disapproval to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to the environment, public health, planning and development and energy and technology. Further the WPC shall submit the SWP to the Governor.
