As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each of you – farmers, partner organizations, elected officials, and advocates – who make Connecticut agriculture strong, resilient, and deeply rooted in community.
This year has been one of meaningful progress and shared success. Together, we celebrated the passage of the Connecticut Farm Bill, a landmark achievement that reflects our collective commitment to supporting local agriculture and ensuring its long-term vitality. We strengthened partnerships across state government, working closely with our sister agencies to align resources and expand impact. We awarded critical grants to farms and food businesses, helping them grow, innovate, and adapt. And we proudly hosted the Northeast Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NEASDA), bringing regional leaders together right here in Connecticut to spotlight our state’s agricultural heritage and future.
We also welcomed new team members to the Department, expanding our capacity to serve and support the industry more effectively. These additions reflect our ongoing investment in the future of Connecticut agriculture.
To the many farmers who opened their gates and welcomed us for farm visits this year – thank you. Your insights and stories help shape our understanding and guide our work. More importantly, you make it possible for families throughout our state to celebrate Thanksgiving with the bounty of Connecticut Grown farm products.
On behalf of the Department, thank you for your partnership and unwavering commitment to agriculture. Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving.
With sincere appreciation,
Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt
