(HARTFORD, CT) – This morning, nineteen members of the Connecticut Interstate Fire Crew (CIFC), coordinated by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), mobilized from DEEP’s Eastern District headquarters in Malborough to fight wildfires in and around Redmond, Oregon.

DEEP Asks Residents to Continue to Exercise Caution During Spring Brush Fire Season
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is again advising Connecticut residents to take precautions to help minimize the likelihood of a fire. Spring fire season is underway; DEEP received reports of 40 wildfires from April 14 to April 21 alone, totaling approximately 300 acres. Most fires can be prevented because they are caused by human actions.
DEEP Forecasts Elevated Levels of PM2.5 from Smoke Today
(HARTFORD)—Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is expecting smoke from wildfires over Nova Scotia to elevate fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels for several hours today. These levels are expected to exceed Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) levels for a period of four hours, beginning after 2:00 p.m. today.

(Hartford, CT) - As Connecticut heads into the Veterans Day weekend, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution due to Red Flag Warning conditions forecasted today and extending through the weekend. The state faces critical fire weather with strong winds and extremely dry conditions, increasing the risk for wildfires. Until Connecticut receives a soaking rain of at least 2-3 inches, it will not be sufficient to lower the fire risk, and the public is urged to maintain a cautious approach to any activities involving fire or equipment that could spark a blaze.

(Hartford, CT) — Today, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) instituted a ban on the use of outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires, and the kindling and use of flame outdoors in all state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas due to statewide severe fire weather conditions and the ongoing Hawthorne Fire on Lamentation Mountain that is affecting Berlin, Meriden, and surrounding areas. This ban follows Governor Ned Lamont’s declaration of a state of emergency across Connecticut yesterday.
