Alternative Fuels Workgroup
School Bus Alternative Fuels Workgroup 2026
On May 27, 2026, Public Act 26-63 was approved by Governor Lamont. This public act requires the Commissioner of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to establish a working group consisting of various state department officials, school transportation & business officials, alternative fuels industry representatives, clean transportation representatives, local education officials, and other experts in the fields of clean fuels and school transportation.
The purpose of the workgroup is to evaluate the increased use of alternative fuels and technologies in school buses to supplement the state’s ongoing zero-emission school bus goals. The fuels to be assessed include, but are not limited to Biodiesel, Propane, and Electricity.
The working group shall submit a report to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to the Environment, Energy and Technology, and Transportation no later than February 1, 2027.
Such report shall include the findings and recommendations of the working group, including any legislative recommendations.
