New Haven Man Convicted of Murder, Possession of Firearm

3/05/2020

New Haven State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced that Joshua Council, age 33, of Quinnipiac Avenue, New Haven, was convicted on March 2, 2020, of Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

Joshua Council’s conviction stems from the shooting death of Kenneth Cooper, age 34, which occurred in the early morning hours of January 12, 2018, in the parking lot of Tiger Mart at 775 Whalley Avenue, New Haven.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorneys Stacey Miranda and Jason Germaine. The New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office commends the great work of the New Haven Police Department and would like to thank all of those involved in bringing justice to Mr. Cooper’s family, friends and the New Haven community as a whole.

Joshua Council will be sentenced for his crimes at the New Haven Superior Court, 235 Church Street, New Haven, on May 14, 2020.
