A University of Connecticut employee was arrested today and charged with stalking and harassing two University of Connecticut employees.
Tammi L. Zavickas, age 55, a 14-year employee of the University of Connecticut Police Department, was arrested by a detective assisting the Tolland State’s Attorney’s Office on a warrant charging her with one count of Stalking in the Second Degree and one count of Harassment in the Second Degree. The arrest was announced today by Tolland State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, an investigation showed that for about a year, Zavickas was an active participant with her husband, UConn Police Officer Peter Zavickas, in the stalking harassment and photographing of two University of Connecticut Division of Public Safety employees by monitoring their movements while following them in their personal vehicle and also sending disparaging letters about the victims to uninvolved parties and to one victim’s residence.
The investigation showed that between September 30, 2019 and October 21, 2020, Tammi Zavickas was in the car with Peter Zavickas on a number of occasions when they are alleged to have driven to the Storrs campus and followed and photographed the victims while trying to avoid detection. It is alleged that Tammi Zavickas also participated in the creation of the disparaging letters sent to one victim’s residence.
“This has been a thorough investigation,” State’s Attorney Gedansky said. “It revealed that there was another party who assisted Officer Zavickas, and that happened to be his wife, a civilian employee of the University of Connecticut.”
Peter Zavickas was arrested on November 10, 2020, and charged with two counts of Electronic Stalking, two counts of Stalking in the Second Degree, two counts of Computer Crime in the Third Degree, two counts of Computer Crime in the Fifth Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree.
Tammi Zavickas was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Tolland Superior Court on February 3, 2021. The charges are merely accusations and she is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Tolland State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful for the assistance it received in this investigation from the University of Connecticut Police Department.
The case will be prosecuted by State’s Attorney Gedansky.
