The Criminal Justice Commission met on September 25, 2018, to conduct interviews for and consider the appointment of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford.
Justice Andrew J. McDonald, Chair of the Commission, called the meeting to order at 9:19 a.m.
In attendance were The Honorable Juliett L. Crawford, Attorney Mary M. Galvin, Attorney Erick A. Russell and Chief State’s Attorney Kevin T. Kane. Attorney Eric J. George participated by telephone. Also present: Division of Criminal Justice Director of Human Resources AnneMarie Paone-Mullin.
Attorney Galvin made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 24, 2018, meeting. Attorney Russell seconded by the motion and it passed unanimously.
At 9:20 a.m., Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Catherine Brannelly Austin presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 10:00 a.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph J. Harry presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 10:42 a.m., Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Cornelius Kelly presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
The Commission took a break at 10:40 a.m. At 11:50 a.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Haupt Miranda presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
The Commission broke for lunch at 12:40 p.m. At 1:05 p.m., Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney C. Robert Satti, Jr., presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 1:52 p.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Cynthia S. Serafini presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 2:40 p.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen P. Zingaro presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
The Commission took a break at 3:25 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr., presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 3:50 p.m., Senior Assistant State’s Attorney John F. Fahey presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 4:10 p.m., Assistant State’s Attorney Sharmese L. Hodge presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
At 4:50 p.m., Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Margaret E. Kelley presented an opening statement and was interviewed.
Attorney Galvin made a motion at 5:00 p.m. to enter executive session to discuss the appointment of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford. Attorney Russell seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The Commission resumed its public session at 5:30 p.m. Justice McDonald stated that no votes were taken during the executive session.
Judge Crawford made a motion to appoint Margaret E. Kelley as State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia/Milford. Attorney George seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Chief State’s Attorney Kane made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:31 p.m. Attorney Galvin seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
