PURA to Hold Public Comment Hearings on CNG and SNG Rate Application

(New Britain, CT – December 12, 2023) – The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) today announced it will hold three public comment hearings to receive ratepayer feedback on the application of Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation (CNG) and The Southern Connecticut Gas Company (SNG) to amend the companies’ existing rate schedules. This is in addition to evidentiary hearings that will be held with the companies and other interested parties in April 2024.

PURA encourages ratepayers to attend and participate in hearings on:

  • Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.; Farmington Library, 6 Monteith Dr., Farmington, CT
  • Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.; West Haven Public Library, 300 Elm St., West Haven, CT
  • Friday, February 16, 2024, at noon; Zoom

Ratepayers and other stakeholders submitting comments into the public record are urged to include the docket number (Docket No. 23-11-02), your name, and home address.

Under the proposed rate application, CNG proposes a revenue increase of $19.8 million, or approximately 4.3% of total revenues. SCG proposes a revenue increase of $40.6 million, or approximately 9.0% of total revenues. Depending upon where a customer is located, the proposed increase would add between $20.08 and $40.15 on a quarterly basis to the typical residential gas bill.

The last CNG and SCG distribution rate cases were completed in 2018 and 2017, respectively. CNG serves more than 186,000 customers in 25 municipalities and SCG serves over 208,000 customers in 24 municipalities.
