About the Office of Community Development

Overview

The Office of Community Development actively supports infrastructure improvements that enrich the fabric of life in communities across Connecticut: removing blight, attracting private investment and new jobs for vacant or abandoned properties, and remediating environmental contamination.

We work in concert with municipal leaders, public agencies, community groups and other partners to carry out a wide range of these initiatives: from small-scale housing construction or rehabilitation and public infrastructure to downtown streetscapes, and rehabilitation of cultural venues such as museums, theaters and cultural centers.

Our Mission
To return brownfield sites across the state to productive re-use, including mixed-use, residential, commercial, industrial, retail, and open space uses.

Our Initiatives

  • Redevelopment projects, including brownfields projects, waterfront recapture, downtown revitalization and transit-oriented development
  • Direct financial assistance (loans and grants) to facilitate redevelopment projects
  • Direct case management and project support to help clients navigate the complexities of brownfield redevelopment, serving as an active partner through the planning, design and execution
  • Technical assistance to municipalities, economic development agencies, brownfield owners and potential developers, including strategic planning, construction/project management and environmental compliance.
  • Coordination with state and federal regulatory entities on permitting matters to facilitate timely and effective review
