Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation Services administers programs for seriously-injured or ill workers with eligible workers' compensation cases, pursuant to Section 31-283a of the Connecticut General Statutes.
The main goal of Workers' Rehabilitation Services is to help the injured worker return to work in a position that is now physically appropriate. Prompt and well-planned vocational rehabilitation may help prevent future injuries.
Formerly a unit within the Workers' Compensation Commission, rehabilitation programs are now administered by the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
Rehabilitation Service Coordinators work within each of the eight Workers' Compensation Commission District Offices, working closely with the Administrative Law Judges and Commission office staff, as well as attorneys, insurance carriers and adjusters, and employers involved in each worker's case.
Each person's program will be individualized, based on their needs, and services provided may include:
- vocational counseling
- evaluation
- aptitude/interest testing
- formal training/education
- job seeking skills
- placement assistance
By providing comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services, WRS collaborates with physicians, medical personnel such as psychologists, clinical therapists, physical therapists, and private rehabilitation agencies. It also maintains relationships with state agencies (DOL, DMHAS, DSS, etc.), and employers.
