How do I get workers’ compensation medical treatment?
-
Tell your manager as soon as you’re hurt or sick at work
Don’t delay! If you wait, it may be more difficult to prove that your injury or illness is work- related. An administrative law judge can also reduce your benefits if they decide that your delay harmed your employer.
-
Get medical treatment
Your employer should immediately send you to a health care provider. They may send you to a:
- Company medical facility
- “Designated provider” they use
- Walk-in clinic
- Hospital
- Doctor or medical provider
It’s your employer’s responsibility to provide initial medical treatment. They may direct you to a designated facility or medical provider. If your employer has an approved managed care plan, you must select a medical provider from their network. A list of network providers is usually available from your human resources department.

Find worksheets and guides
These resources help track your mileage to and from workers' compensation-related medical appointments. They also keep track of employer contacts if you're looking for a job while out on workers' compensation.
Please note, WCC doesn’t provide actual mileage reimbursement, medical treatment, or rehabilitation, but you can learn about it and get the worksheets.
