How do I get paid for a workers’ compensation claim?
The Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission’s (WCC) primary job is to resolve workers’ comp disputes. Please note, we can’t give legal advice or pay benefits. We don’t provide medical care, mileage reimbursement, or rehabilitation. However, we can give explanations, forms, and worksheets. Learn how to get paid for your claim.
Get a benefit payment
If your claim is approved, expect to get your first benefit check within two weeks of filing a claim with your employer.
If you don’t get a payment
Call your company’s workers' compensation insurance carrier.
Note: The insurance carrier may need the Employer's First Report of Occupational Injury or Illness (FRI) form (PDF), a wage statement from your employer, and a medical report from your physician saying your injury is work-related so you now have a disability.
The insurer also may need to know your Federal tax filing status (single, head of household, married filing jointly, or married filing separately). If only the wage statement is missing, the carrier can usually send an advance payment until they get it.
If you continue to have issues receiving workers' comp benefits, learn about the hearing process.
