Electric Vehicle Charging Program

Electric and gas utilities have begun notifying residential customers with unpaid and/or past-due balances that if they do not take action and contact their utility to enroll in a payment plan, they are at risk of having their gas services terminated on Thursday, May 2, 2024. If your household has received a notification from your utility company, please contact them directly to set up a payment plan to keep your services on. These plans charge no interest, and all customers qualify at least once for one or more of these plans. Program Overview

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Program is a statewide program that provides incentives for residential and commercial light-duty EV charging equipment, as well as accompanying rate design offerings, to optimize charging behavior. Launched in January 2022, this nine-year program is administered by Connecticut’s regulated electric companies, Eversource Energy and The United Illuminating (UI) Company.  

The EV Charging Program aims to support Connecticut’s commitment to deploy 125,000 - 150,000 EVs by 2025; seamlessly integrate EVs and EV-related technologies into Connecticut’s electric grid; realize the electric system benefits, as well as the economic, health, and environmental benefits that EVs provide; achieve an equitable transition to EV deployment across all communities in Connecticut; and support PURA’s objectives of the Framework for an Equitable Modern Grid. Overall, the program aims to deploy over 65,000 residential and commercial EV charging ports by 2030.

NEW Recent Changes (2023 only)

The application period for direct current fast charger (DCFC) incentives is open from March 15, 2024 – June 1, 2024. Reach out to your electric utility to learn more about the DCFC selection criteria.

Multi-Unit Dwellings, or buildings with 5 or more residential units, can now lease EV chargers from their electric utilities without any upfront capital costs. Reach out to your electric utility for more information.

Light-duty fleets can now participate in a managed charging program through their electric utility and receive additional monthly financial incentives. Reach out to your electric utility for more information.

UI customers can participate in the residential managed charging program through their electric vehicle’s existing telematics or their networked Level 2 charger; use of advanced metering infrastructure to participate in managed charging is no longer supported.
