Connecticut law now requires all agencies involved in the juvenile justice system to report on their activities combating DMC. The 2011 Statutory Report on Disproportionate Minority Contact is a response to that legislation.

Transparency holds state agencies accountable for their efforts and educates the public about the problem of DMC. Connecticut is a leader in demanding this level of information and in broadly disseminating it. The Statutory Report is a useful tool to:

  • Understand the scope of efforts within state government to reduce DMC
  • Facilitate informed public input on plans and programming
  • Share successful strategies for reducing DMC
  • Identify points in the system where more work is needed
  • Find synergies between the programs of different agencies
  • Track the effectiveness of work over the course of subsequent years
