SARA membership

Connecticut is a member state of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA).

SARA oversees the rules and quality around distance education. Approved CT schools can enroll students from other SARA member states without having to seek authorization from those states.

CT’s Office of Higher Education (OHE) is the State Portal Entity (SPE) for SARA in Connecticut, and:

  • Reviews applications from CT schools that want to join SARA.
  • Resolves out-of-state students' complaints against SARA member schools located in CT.

Apply to join SARA

SARA membership is voluntary. Degree-granting schools have to first be authorized in CT if they plan to join SARA. Learn about eligibility on NC-SARA's website.

To apply, log into your Veoci institutional account and click on NC SARA submission on your dashboard.

We do not review the application until an institution pays the state fee.

Once CT OHE receives, reviews, and approves your application, you will receive an invoice and payment link from NC-SARA. Learn how NC-SARA calculates your participation fee.

NC-SARA will confirm your payment and list your institution on their website. See a directory of SARA member states and institutions.

Annual renewal

Approval to take part in SARA is valid for one year. Before your initial approval expires, NC-SARA will prompt you to renew. To keep your approval status, follow SARA policies.

The initial approval and renewal process follow the same steps.
