Our initiatives can help students succeed after high school

The Office of Higher Education (OHE) has grant initiatives that help Connecticut residents get the education and experience they want after high school. These programs help:

  • Colleges and universities have more diverse students and graduates with the Minority Advancement Program (MAP)
  • Residents and organizations serve our state with Serve Connecticut, the local arm of AmeriCorps
  • Minority Advancement Program (MAP) 
    MAP awards grants to colleges, universities, and nonprofit organizations to support student diversity at Connecticut colleges and universities.
  • Serve Connecticut 
    Serve Connecticut is the local arm of AmeriCorps, which helps people perform meaningful work in communities throughout our state and America.

Grants for schools and nonprofits

MAP grants fund programs that help disadvantaged students enroll in and graduate from Connecticut colleges and universities.
  • ConnCAP grant 
    This grant funds pre-college programs that help disadvantaged middle and high school students graduate high school and succeed in college.
  • PASS grant 
    PASS grants fund programs that help undergraduate minority students who are on academic warning or probation.
  • PATH grant 
    Nonprofits use these grants to help high school students apply to college, submit a FAFSA, and apply for financial aid.

Join AmeriCorps in Connecticut

We oversee Serve Connecticut, the local arm of AmeriCorps. This program strengthens citizenship while helping communities address their challenges. Our program is for:

  • People who want to support communities in Connecticut
  • Organizations that want to partner with us
  • Community leaders looking for a resource

AmeriCorps members served at more than 400 locations across our state, including schools, food banks, homeless shelters, health clinics, youth centers, veterans' facilities, and other nonprofit and faith-based organizations. Find out how you can join the team!
