  • Advocate for students
  • Administer the State’s scholarship programs
  • Protect the interests of CT students using VA benefits
  • Act as a resource for information on higher education trends and topics

Academic Affairs

An oversight process that protects CT students

OHE's Academic Affairs Division:

  • Oversees colleges and career schools
  • Can approve CT schools so they can offer degree and non-degree programs
  • Reviews changes to programs and schools, such as new owners or new locations
  • Helps to ensure that schools follow state and federal rules
  • Protects students who go to these schools

Helping CT residents pay for higher education

OHE’s Finance Division is in charge of student aid and has information for you about:

  • Student Loan Reimbursement Program (SLRP)
  • Roberta B. Willis Scholarships (Need & Need/Merit)
  • Minority Teacher Incentive Program (MTIP)
  • Adjunct Professor Incentive Grant (APIG)

Quick links to financial aid programs

Student Loan Repayment Program (PDF) 

Applicants will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis. The award amount is up to $5,000 a year with a $20,000 cap over four years.

Roberta B. Willis Scholarships 

Eligible applicants may receive up to $5,250 a year for a four-year program and up to $4,650 a year for a two-year program.

CT Minority Teacher Incentive Program 

College deans nominate minority juniors and seniors enrolled in their teacher preparation program.

  • Minority Advancement Program (MAP) grants that help CT students enroll, stay in school, and graduate
  • Connecticut Commission on Community Service (Serve CT) grants
  • Our Alternate Route to Certification (ARC)

MAP Grants 

Minority Advancement Program (MAP) grants aim to boost student enrollment, and graduation rates. They also foster more diversity on college campuses.

Serve CT 

We partner with Serve CT and administer grants that foster national service (AmeriCorps) and volunteerism.

ARC 

Our fast-track program to a teaching certificate program has a hybrid and condensed format. It is ideal for busy adults who want to teach in CT.
