What types of career schools needs OHE’s authorization?
Generally speaking, any person, board, association, partnership, corporation, limited liability company or other entity offering or advertising vocational instruction in any form or manner in any trade, industrial, commercial, service, professional or other occupation for any remuneration, consideration, reward or fee of whatever nature is considered a private career school and needs to be authorized by OHE. Any entity interested in starting a career school or is offering vocational instruction and not authorized by OHE, should reach out to OHE to determine if they need authorization or are exempt.
What types of schools are exempt from OHE’s authorization process?
There are several kinds of schools that do not need to seek approval from Connecticut’s Office of Higher Education (OHE). This means, they can operate without CT OHE approval.
Exempt from approval are:
- Schools that offer instruction under public supervision and control.
- Schools that offer instruction conducted by a firm or organization solely for the training of its own employees.
- Schools that offer instruction offered by a school approved by the General Assembly to confer degrees.
- Schools that offer instruction offered in the arts or recreation, including, but not limited to, the training of students to provide such instruction
