About the Museum of CT History

The Museum of Connecticut History is the state's history museum. We are a unit of the state agency, the Connecticut State Library. We collect and exhibit artifacts related to Connecticut's history. These artifacts help us understand the people, places, and events that make up our state's history. In our work, we seek to celebrate lived experiences and help visitors deepen their historical understanding.

The museum was founded in 1910 as part of the new Connecticut State Library and Supreme Court building. In 1986, the CT General Assembly named it the Raymond E. Baldwin Museum of Connecticut History and Heritage.

Museum of CT History's mission:

  • to connect the experience of residents and visitors to the artifacts, images, and documents of the past;
  • to increase awareness of and pride in the state’s political, military, and industrial history;
  • and to build commitment to preserving and sharing its cultural heritage
